The Ela Township Board presented Lumen Optical of Kildeer with a certificate of appreciation at its Oct. 13 board meeting for their generosity in providing 36 children from the township’s Shooting Stars summer program with free eye exams prior to the start of the new school year. Sixteen of those children also received free prescription glasses.
“On behalf of Ela Township, and especially the youth of our community, we can’t thank you enough for your generosity,” Trustee Gloria Palmblad said. “What a terrific way to start off the new school year! Lumen Optical is truly a great example of neighbor serving neighbor.”
Lumen Optical Market Director Scott Shaw was on-hand to accept the framed certificate, with featured a photo of some of the children, along with a gift card.
“We are very excited to be part of the community and hope this will be the first of many events,” he said.
Lumen Optical, the first store of its kind in the Chicagoland area, opened in Kildeer just last March. Two more locations are planned to open in Mt. Prospect and Evanston.
