Important Message from Aqua Illinois

October 31, 2023

The Village of Hawthorn Woods is in receipt of the following message from Aqua Illinois regarding their water system.

Dear AQUA Customer:

This is an important notice from AQUA sent on October 31st, 2023. Please note, only notified customers on Tournament Drive South, Red Tail Drive, Somerset Hills Court and within Hawthorn Woods Country Club are affected. This is not a system wide interruption.

This morning we identified a water leak within the water system that serves Tournament Drive South and Red Tail Drive. We immediately notified McHenry Excavating, who arrived at the site of the leak shortly thereafter to begin repairs. Initially, the leak only impacted a portion of homes on Tournament Drive South and Red Tail Drive. While responding to the leak, additional homes on Somerset Hills Court and north of Schwerman Drive lost water pressure and in some instances, water service.

We have repaired the source of the leak and water service has been fully restored. As part of our service restoration procedures, we are fully flushing the system within the affected area and have submitted water samples to a third-party lab for testing. The boil water notice will be lifted pending test results. These results will be available within the next 18 hours.

Because water pressure within the system dropped below standard operating levels, Aqua is continuing to maintain a precautionary boil water advisory for customers in the affected area until test results confirm the notice can be lifted. Aqua advises you to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Bring water to a boil, boil it for five minutes and let it cool before use. We will notify you as soon as it is no longer necessary to boil your water.

Additionally, we ask that you flush the plumbing in your home by running all cold water faucets for at least five minutes each.

For residents with water filtration systems, first run the cold water faucet nearest to the source of water to your home until it runs clear. We recommend you follow all manufacturer instructions to complete a full flush of your plumbing.

As part of our emergency procedures, we have been in communication with the Lake Zurich Fire Department, Long Grove Fire Department, and Countryside Fire Protection District and have confirmed that they are aware of the situation within the affected areas.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

Please call Aqua at 877.987.2782 if you have any further questions.
