On July 9, 2020, at a Special Board Meeting, the Ela Township Supervisor Gloria Palmblad, including other members of the Ela Township Board presented a select group of graduating Lake Zurich High School seniors with $1,500.00 scholarships toward their continuing education. Scholarship dollars are 100% funded solely by Township permit fees assessed at the Knigge Park student parking lot.
The Township Board presents these scholarships to Ela Township area high school seniors yearly at the regular monthly board meeting. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic; high school graduates, their families, and the Township Board attended an outdoor ceremony following proper state safety guidelines at the Knox Park Concession stand to receive their awards this year.
The scholarship award selection process is always challenging due to the numerous amount of highly qualified candidates the Township receives every year. As part of the process, students were required to submit their application, transcripts, and reference letters; in addition to providing a short essay describing future educational plans and career goals among other award criteria. Notably, candidates were also expected to demonstrate a strong commitment toward community service involvement and volunteer activities within the Township. Over the past several years that these scholarships have been made available to students in the community, the Township Board has been proud to support the substantial efforts of these bright and talented students.
Congratulations to the 2020 Ela Township Scholarship award winners! The Ela Township Board wishes these scholarship recipients much success!
