Overview
The Township Board is the governing board elected to direct township policies and operations. The board is comprised of dedicated township residents who work to improve the quality of life for the communities served within Ela Township’s borders.
The Township Board is the legislative branch of township government and is comprised of four trustees and a supervisor. The Supervisor is the Chairman of the Township Board. Each board member is elected at-large within the township (unless appointed due to a vacancy) and has one vote on all issues before the Township Board. The Township Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer for Ela Township and is responsible for overseeing daily operations and executing the policies directed by the Township Board.
Term
The Township Board has one vacant position for Township Trustee as of June 1, 2023. The Township Board will appoint a qualified individual for the remainder of the current term, which ends on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Duties
In general, Trustees’ duties include monthly auditing of bills, review and adoption of the Township budget, approval of ordinances and contracts, and policymaking for the Township among other items. As public officials, Trustees attend Township Board/committee meetings and must also follow state law in carrying out their duties with open meetings and public records.
