Senior Resource Services

Our Senior Resource Specialist can answer questions and provide assistance with prescription drug coverage, Medicare and Medicaid, food stamps, transportation and discount programs. We also offer information and referrals for assisted living and nursing homes, counseling and mental health, and food pantries and meal programs. Other services include Alzheimer’s and dementia support and arrangement of friendly home visits by trained volunteers.  For an appointment, please contact:

BenefitsCheckUp identifies federal and state programs that can help you pay for medications, health care, food, utilities and more.

Medicare connects you to the Official U.S. Government site for Medicare. Here you can also navigate the Medicare plan finder tool safely and securely to help find the most cost effective prescription drug plan to fit your needs.

The Illinois Department on Aging helps older people live independently in their own homes and communities. Here you will find the application for the Benefit Access Program (formerly Circuit Breaker). Income eligible seniors and persons with disability can also apply for a license plate discount and ride free transit card.

The Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) provides free statewide health insurance counseling service for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. SHIP maintains an annual Medicare Supplement Premium Comparison Guide. Note: Ela 55+ Senior Resource Specialist Lisa Gaggiano is a certified SHIP counselor.

Social Security information is available on the official website of the U.S. Social Security Administration. Online services include applying for Social Security benefits, Medicare only and requesting a replacement Social Security card.

On the Illinois Department of Human Services website, seniors who are income and asset eligible can apply for SNAP (formerly food stamp) benefits along with medical and cost-sharing programs.
